The Schools for Innovation and Excellence initiative commenced in 2003
and supports primary and secondary schools to work closely together in
clusters over three years to deliver innovation and excellence in
Victorian education. Clusters receive, on average, start-up funding of
approximately $200,000 in the first year to develop strategically
effective education programs to advance student learning. A further
$80,000 is provided in the second and third years to employ an
Educator/cluster coordinator to embed the innovation across the cluster.
By 2005, every Victorian government school will be in a cluster. A total
of 247 clusters will be in operation by this stage.
Through this innovation, the Cluster plans to:
1. Enhance literacy and numeracy outcomes for students.
2. Develop flexible and integrated programs that will create curriculum
coherence.
3. Improve student connectedness with school.
4. Build relationships within the Cluster partnership that will result in
greater sharing of teaching practice and programs.
